Characteristics of Freon refrigerants

Freon is a kind of commonly used high, medium and low temperature refrigerants. It is colorless, tasteless, nonflammable, non explosive, with stable chemical properties and basically non-toxic. Freon can meet the requirements of different refrigeration temperature, and the lowest evaporation temperature is - 120 ℃. Freon can dissolve lubricating oil in different degrees, so it is not easy to form oil film in the system and has little effect on heat transfer. At the same time, in the design of freon refrigeration unit, the replacement of working medium is also considered, that is, when using new refrigerant, there is no need to change the system. Freon refrigerant is a series of azeotropic mixtures of saturated hydrocarbons, chlorine and bromine. Common freons include R11, R22, r507, R134a, R404A, etc. R134a and R404A are environmentally friendly refrigerants that do not damage the atmospheric ozone layer.

The harm of Freon refrigerants?

Freon gas will replace oxygen in the air. Most of its gas will stay in low and poor ventilation places, causing serious hypoxia in the environment. In the environment or staying for a long time, it can cause asphyxia due to lack of oxygen. When Freon meets with open fire, it can rapidly decompose into phosgene, hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid, chlorine, carbon monoxide and other toxic and harmful gases. Freon itself is non-toxic, but when it is mixed with air to a certain concentration, accidents that can cause suffocation and death or serious injury have occurred. Freon 113 gas has a sweet smell.

What should be paid attention to when using and storing Freon refrigerants?

 1. The refrigerant is low-pressure liquefied gas. The container containing refrigerant belongs to class II pressure vessel. If it is not filled, managed and used properly, accidents will easily occur. Therefore, the relevant regulations must be observed when filling, transporting, storing and using.

2. Cylinders containing refrigerant must be inspected to ensure that they can withstand the specified pressure. Containers with defects in appearance, unable to ensure safety or beyond the inspection period shall not be filled. When filling refrigerant, it is not allowed to exceed the safe filling quantity.

3. During transportation and storage, the cylinder containing refrigerant shall be protected from direct sunlight and exposure, and shall not be close to heat source and impact.

4. The control valve on the cylinder is usually protected by a cap or iron cover. After use, the removed cap or iron cover must be replaced to prevent damage due to impact during transportation.

5. When the valve of the cylinder is frozen, it is forbidden to bake it with fire. Instead, it should be moved to a warmer place or thawed with warm water.

6. When the refrigerant in the cylinder is used up, the control valve should be closed immediately to avoid air or water leakage.

7. Refrigerants should not touch the skin, let alone the eyes.

8. If there is a large amount of refrigerant permeating, the doors and windows must be opened, otherwise people will suffocate.
